Hi, I’m Dr. Robert Love

Maybe you’ve noticed a few changes lately. Your skin doesn’t feel as springy as it used to. Your nails split more easily. A workout takes a little longer to bounce back from.

If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. It’s something my followers write to me about often, especially women in perimenopause and menopause.

I’m a neuroscientist. I spend my days teaching people simple things they can do to keep their brain and body healthy as they get older. And one question keeps landing in my inbox: “Robert, does collagen actually work? Or is it just another trend?”

It’s a fair question. There’s been a lot of people saying collagen works, and a lot of people saying it can’t, because your stomach just digests it.

So here’s my honest answer. I think collagen is one of the best supplements I can recommend, “in particular for women in perimenopause and menopause, but also for men and women who want to maintain healthy bones and healthy skin.”

On this page I’m going to show you exactly how collagen works once you swallow it (digestion is actually the point), what the research has looked at, and the three things I look for before I’ll put my name on a bag of it.

No hype. No miracle promises. Just how it works, so you can decide for yourself.

I love you. God bless you.

Dr. Love
It’s called Dr. Love Grass-Fed Collagen, and it comes in a bag you scoop from.

One scoop a day, in a drink you already have, so your body has what it uses to make collagen.*

Collagen is the scaffolding that holds you together

Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body. It’s a big part of your skin, your bones, your tendons and ligaments, and even the walls of your blood vessels.

1. It slows down

As we get older, the body’s own collagen production naturally slows. Most people notice it in their skin first.

2. Life stages change things

Perimenopause and menopause are natural life stages, not diseases. But they change what your body is working with, including bone and muscle.

3. Raw materials matter

To make collagen, your body needs the right amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein.

“Eating collagen peptides gives your body the raw materials to make more collagen.” — Dr. Love

Here’s how collagen works

This is the part most people get wrong. They think, “If my stomach breaks it down, it’s wasted.” It’s the opposite.

Collagen peptides break down into amino acids; with vitamin C your body reassembles them into its own collagen for skin, hair, nails and bones
1

You take a scoop

Collagen peptides are collagen that’s already been broken into smaller pieces, so the powder stirs into a drink.

2

Your body breaks it down

When you eat a collagen supplement, your body breaks it down into amino acids.

3

Vitamin C stitches

In the presence of vitamin C, your body reassembles those amino acids. As I like to say, vitamin C basically helps stitch the amino acids together.

4

Your own collagen

Your body puts those amino acids to work making its own collagen, for skin, hair, nails, bones and muscles.*

That’s why I never say collagen “goes straight to your skin.” It doesn’t. It gives your body the ingredients, and your body decides where to use them.

What the research has looked at

Researchers have studied specific collagen peptide ingredients in adults, and especially in women. Here’s what four of those studies looked at:

Skin

A placebo-controlled study in women looked at skin elasticity and moisture after daily collagen peptides.1

Nails

A study of people with brittle nails looked at nail growth and how often nails broke.2

Bones

A randomized study in postmenopausal women looked at bone mineral density and bone markers over a year.3

Muscle

A study in premenopausal women who did resistance training looked at body composition and strength.4

Please read this part. These studies used specific collagen peptide ingredients, not Dr. Love Collagen, and their results don’t automatically apply to any one product. I’ll be honest with you the way I’m honest on my videos: I don’t know if collagen increases bone density directly. What I can tell you is that researchers keep studying it, and that’s why I take it seriously.

Three things I look for in a collagen

Collagen powders are not all the same. Before you buy any collagen, from me or from anyone, ask three questions:

1. Where does it come from?

I chose grass-fed collagen. It does cost more, but that’s the collagen we want. Ask any brand where their collagen is sourced.

2. Has it been tested?

Ask whether the brand tests its collagen with an outside lab and will show you the results. Good companies are happy to answer.

3. Where is it made?

Ask where it’s made and what quality standards the facility follows. A reputable brand can tell you.

Who is Dr. Love Collagen for?

It’s a simple daily scoop for adults who…

  • ✓
Are a woman in perimenopause or menopause and want to give your body the raw materials it uses for skin, hair, nails, bones and muscles.*
  • ✓
Want to keep active as they get older and already care about strength training, sleep and good food.
  • ✓
Like simple habits a scoop in a drink you already have, instead of another handful of pills.
  • ✓
Prefer grass-fed and would rather pay a little more for the source.

Talk to your healthcare professional first if you…

  • !
are pregnant or nursing, or under 18
  • !
have a known medical condition or take prescription medication
  • !
have an allergy or sensitivity to beef-derived (bovine) ingredients
  • !
already take other collagen, biotin or protein supplements and want to check your daily totals

What’s in the bag

Here’s what we can tell you today, and what to check on the bag in your hands.

Grass-fed collagen peptides

The main ingredient: collagen from grass-fed cattle, already broken into peptides so it stirs into a drink.*

Measured by the scoop

Use the scoop in the bag. The serving size and the number of servings are printed on the label, so always follow the directions on your bag.

Read the full label

The Supplement Facts panel on the bag lists every ingredient and amount. If you have allergies or take other supplements, check it first.

Get the most from every scoop

When people ask me how to get more out of collagen, I give them three simple things:

1. Vitamin C

Your body uses vitamin C to build collagen. Citrus, berries, kiwi and peppers all count, or ask your healthcare professional about a supplement.

2. Move your body

Strength training and walking give your muscles and bones a reason to use the building blocks you’re eating.

3. Sleep

Your body does a lot of its repair work while you sleep. Protect your sleep like it matters, because it does.

How to use it

  1. Scoop the amount shown on the label.
  2. Stir it into water, coffee, tea or a smoothie.
  3. Make it part of something you already do every day, so you don’t forget.

Questions people ask me

Does collagen really work if my body digests it?

Digestion is the point. When you eat a collagen supplement, your body breaks it down into amino acids. Then, in the presence of vitamin C, it reassembles those amino acids into collagen. Eating collagen peptides gives your body the raw materials to make more collagen.*

Do I need to take vitamin C with it?

Your body needs vitamin C to make collagen. Most people get it from foods like citrus, berries, kiwi and peppers. If you’re not sure you get enough, ask your healthcare professional.

Why grass-fed?

That’s my choice for the source. It does cost more, but that’s the collagen we want.

How much do I take?

Use the scoop in the bag and follow the serving size printed on the label. Don’t take more than the label says.

What do I mix it with?

Most people stir it into water, coffee, tea or a smoothie. Pick a drink you already have every day so it becomes a habit.

Can men take it?

Yes. I recommend collagen for women in perimenopause and menopause in particular, but also for men and women who want to maintain healthy bones and healthy skin.*

Is it safe with my medication?

I’m a neuroscientist, not a medical doctor, so I can’t give you medical advice. If you’re pregnant or nursing, under 18, have a medical condition or take medication, check with your healthcare professional before using any supplement.

Does collagen treat menopause symptoms?

No, and I won’t tell you it does. Menopause is a natural life stage. Collagen is a food-based building block that supports healthy skin, hair, nails, bones and muscles as part of a healthy routine.*

Start your collagen habit

One scoop. One drink you already have. Pair it with vitamin C, movement and good sleep, and let your body do the rest.*
